International Organization for Migration (IOM)

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is the leading intergovernmental organization in the field of migration and is part of the United Nations System. Established in 1951 and headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, IOM works with 174 member states and maintains offices in over 100 countries worldwide.

IOM established its operations in Lao PDR in 2002. Across the country, IOM provides a comprehensive response to the humanitarian needs of migrants, internally displaced persons, returnees and host communities through direct assistance, skills development, and migration policy support. Its work in Laos spans migration and development, facilitating regular migration pathways, regulating migration, and addressing forced migration challenges.

With over 22,000 staff globally and a budget of approximately USD 3.7 billion, IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. The organization collaborates with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners to protect people on the move, drive solutions to displacement, and facilitate pathways for regular migration.
