Phu Bia Mining owns and operates two award winning operations – Phu Kham Copper-Gold and Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver, both located in Xaisomboun Province, 120km north of Vientiane.     This is a unique time to join the Phu Bia Mining team. Site-based employees work a roster of 20 days on, 8 days off; 9 days on, 5 days off; or 14 days on, 7 days off for shift work, while Vientiane – based employees work 5 days per week with 2 days off. Reporting to the Senior Geotechnical engineer, Provide geotechnical engineering and strata control support through mapping, monitoring and implementation of ground control systems. The BHX Underground operation is a mechanised hard rock mine transitioning from open pit, targeting a structurally complex Au deposit. Mining is conducted at moderate depth with sublevel stoping methods, within variable rock mass conditions ranging from competent volcanic units to weaker shear-zone influenced material. Key geotechnical challenges include managing ground variability, groundwater inflows, and crown pillar interaction with the overlying pit. The operation requires robust Ground Control Management Plan implementation, routine mapping and monitoring, and proactive hazard identification to maintain safe development and production as the mine advances into deeper and more technically demanding conditions. Mining is expected to last 5 years with peak production volumes of 500ktpa.         Your responsibilities will include:   Identify instability and implement mitigation measures Undertake mapping and update geotechnical model Monitor support performance and ground conditions Conduct QA/QC of support systems Assist with groundwater monitoring and probe drilling Support mine planning activities Maintain documentation and reporting To be successful in this role, you will require:   Degree in Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geology or a related discipline. 3–8 years of underground geotechnical experience, preferably in hard rock mining. Experience in geotechnical mapping, ground monitoring, and ground support systems. Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with geotechnical or mining software is an advantage. Good written and spoken English skills.
