Lao Asia Pacific Satellite Company Limited (LAOSAT) is a joint-venture satellite operator based in Vientiane, Laos, established in 2016 as the commercial arm of the Lao Satellite Project — a landmark China-Laos cooperation initiative. The company owns and operates the LAOSAT-1 communications satellite, launched in November 2015 aboard a Long March 3B rocket from Xichang, providing satellite communication, satellite television (DTH), and telecommunications broadband services across Laos and the region. LAOSAT is the first and only satellite operator in Laos, authorized by the Lao government to deliver commercial satellite services. Its DTH platform carries Lao and international TV channels, including the country's first education-focused TV channel, while its broadband division extends connectivity to underserved rural areas. The company also plays a key role in national development projects, including China-aided rural poverty alleviation through digital TV deployment. With a ground station in Vientiane and growing partnerships across aerospace and telecom sectors, LAOSAT continues to expand its capabilities — from satellite remote sensing applications to lunar research cooperation — positioning itself as a critical infrastructure provider for Laos' digital transformation.
